GOOGLE and you

The way I used to use Google was the same Way everyone did at one point in their lives....web search. With the growing number of products Google keeps launching , I now rely very heavy on their apps. Our customers also rely on these and we can position them to help their communication when tied with their mobile phone. We can help them find more security for their valuable data, find more use for their PDA devices , and believe in the knowledge of their sales people.

Here are the applications I use regularly and perhaps you will find some great things to show your customers. Many of our customers are Google users of some sort so it is a name they trust. Remember we must be the EXPERTS, this is not just about voice products anymore.

GOOGLE G-MAIL
Great E-mail application. I use this as my personal E-mail and I also use the G-Mail application for Blackberry. Gmail is great because it has a wonderful interface and a very handy search feature. G-mail is free and you get a ton of mail space.

GOOGLE CALENDAR
This is one of my favorite applications. I used to do what everyone else did, Outlook. What I have found since switching to Google calendar it is much easier to schedule. Its as simple as entering a statement like " Lunch meeting with Bob Jones at 1 pm at 1212 main street. It enters everything seamlessly. Google also has many plug-in calendars like "US HOLIDAYS". The other positive about the calendar is the ability to access it anywhere you have a computer and Internet.

GOOGLE VOICE
You will have a hard time grabbing this one as this application is not publicly available yet unless you had an old grandcentral.com account. I was lucky enough to have one so I have started using this. Google Voice is pretty amazing! Basically it gives you a local phone number. You can have that number forward to any other number or numbers to reach you. What this means is that you never have to change your number again!!! ever!! . I would imagine the probability of Google shutting down would be slim so I believe we are safe.

GOOGLE CONTACTS
This is not a stand-alone app but is found in 2 places I know of: G-Mail and Google Voice. Again a really easy user interface to add your contacts. You can also CALL and SMS right from your contact list in Google Voice.
This also comes into play with Google Sync which I will describe next.

GOOGLE SYNC
This brings the calendar and contacts together! I use Google Sync for my Blackberry Curve and our customers we set this up for LOVE IT. It works for Windows Mobile, Blackberry, S60, Sony Ericsson , and iphones.

Here what it does

- Syncs contacts both ways between your Google calendar and your device. If you add something to your schedule on your handheld , it updates on the web and visa versa!
- Syncs contacts. If you buy popular smart phones, it is as simple as downloading Google sync and your contacts are there. It also updates contact pictures.

Now this is a small sample of the power of Google but the focus of this article is on the mobile applications that i believe will make a difference for you and your customers. There are multiple other apps that I use and that I am sure you will find useful, but I wanted to focus on the mobile ones.

Some others to check out that I use:

  • Picasa - on-line photo application
  • Google Docs- store your important documents and work online with a Microsoft office like environment
  • Blogger- anyone can blog , this makes it easy!
  • Google Chrome - my default web browser: fast and clean!

Keep learning and earning ,
Chris
